Fitness Tips for the Elderly

Getting old is not easy. There are a lot of things that happen with your health and your body. But one of the best things you can do at any age is to stay in shape. It isn’t always easy to stay fit though when you are older. Here are a few tips that will help you.

1. Do a little something every day

I don’t care if it’s a ten-minute walk, five push-ups, or ten jumping jacks. Doing a little bit every day will help your body to know that you are staying active and staying fit.

2. Start out slow

If you haven’t been very active, you don’t want to just hit the ground running. Start taking ten-minute walks every day. Then increase it to 15 minutes. Then 20. The point is just to increase your fitness activity gradually.

3. Find something you love doing

You may want to try a few different types of fitness activities before you find one that works for you. Water aerobics is a great activity for older people to try because it’s not as hard on your bones and you don’t have to worry about having bad balance.

4. Make sure you warm up

You want to do a few stretches before you work out. This will get your body loose so that you will be able to really throw yourself into working out.

5. Don’t give up

Working out can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. The most important thing is that you never give up on your goals and your health, no matter what your age is!
